Preliminary planning has now reached an advanced stage in the Banfield corridor, the corridor with the greatest patronage potential, and also, because of the withdrawal of the Mount Hood Freeway .

The program aims to increase local ridesharing during peak travel periods, therefore reducing single occupancy vehicles, traffic congestion, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the need for parking within San Mateo County.

In Octobercarpool occupancy requirements to use the lane were increased from two or more to three or more persons per vehicle between and a.m. in order to restore free-flow operation on the transitway.
